Bombardier Aerospace - Belfast

Bombardier is an international corporation engaged in the design, development, manufacture and marketing of transportation equipment, financial services and aerospace products.

The Montreal-headquartered corporation operates plants in 21 countries in Europe, North America and Asia. Its revenues for its fiscal year ended January 31, 2008 totalled $17.5 billion. It has some 28,100 employees in Bombardier Aerospace.

Between 1986 and 1992, Bombardier acquired CanadairÒ and de HavillandÒ in Canada, Short Brothers in Northern Ireland, and LearjetÒ in the United States. These four companies were integrated to form Bombardier Aerospace, which has become a major force in world aerospace. The third largest civil aircraft manufacturer in the world, Bombardier Aerospace has annual sales totalling $9.7 billion, and a backlog of $22.7 billion at January 31, 2008.

As the leading business, regional and amphibious aircraft manufacturer, Bombardier Aerospace offers the most comprehensive families of turboprop and regional jet aircraft and the widest range of business jets. It also provides the Bombardier FlexjetÒ fractional ownership programme, technical services, aircraft maintenance and pilot training for business and regional airline customers, as well as aircraft structures and engine nacelles to other major manufacturers.

Bombardier Aerospace is the largest investor in Northern Ireland and the largest manufacturing company, employing some 5,200 people.

Since 1989, the Belfast base has been transformed through a focused investment programme by Bombardier of some £1.2 billion in plant, machinery, facilities, product development and training. This has extended significantly the company's capabilities and made a dramatic impact on year-end figures, helping to ensure that Bombardier Aerospace in Northern Ireland is a centre of excellence in key aerospace technologies.
