Hamburg Airport
An introduction to the New Hamburg Airport:Three words, one airport: fast, beautiful, modern. Thanks to the New Hamburg Airport flying from Hamburg will be even more convenient and easy. The New Hamburg Airport – includes the new Airport Plaza, framed by the two state-of-the-art passengers terminals; a dynamic parking guidance system; wide access roads; additional parking spaces as well as a connection to the S-Bahn rapid transport system and the deluxe hotel being built within walking distance of the terminals.
The airport’s newest building, the Airport Plaza, will be officially opened on 4th December 2008. Also designed by architects von Gerkan, Marg & Partner the Airport Plaza is a perfect match with the rest of the airport’s architecture; both visually and functionally. It has been designed in the same style as the flanking terminal complexes, which it also interconnects. The Airport Plaza will be the site of a central security checkpoint. This means that every passenger on their way to a departure gate will pass through one of the 16 aviation security checkpoints located in the building. In addition to this both of the baggage handling systems currently located in Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 will be brought together on the lower ground floor of the Airport Plaza. With a floor area of 4,900 square metres the Airport Plaza is smaller than Terminal 2 (5,850 square metres) and Terminal 1 (6,300 square metres).
