Release Date: 2009-04-09
Up to 60,000 passengers are expected to travel through Liverpool''s John Lennon airport this weekend as they head for Easter sun.
It is thought between 55,000 and 60,000 people will go through the airport between Good Friday and Easter Monday.
The most popular destinations for northern travellers seem to be mainland Spain and the Balearics, while city breaks to Paris and Rome are also getting booked up.
People are also expected to get some skiing in before the season ends, with Innsbruck and Grenoble also proving well-liked.
Andy Gower, airport director, says: "With the economy continuing to dominate the news, it looks like a well deserved break for many is what''s needed. Volumes of passengers jetting off from here have been noticeably higher this week already."
Gatwick Airport is expecting over a million passengers through the school Easter holidays, from April 3rd to 14th.
Mike Luddy, commercial director at the hub, says travellers will be able to take advantage of the stores in the airport.
