Passengers urged to use facial scans, AOA

Release Date: 2009-05-14

Passengers at Stansted Airport are being urged to cut waiting times by using the latest technology at the hub.

Travellers using the London facility are being called upon to make use of the facial recognition gates which have recently been put in place.

The equipment scans passengers'' faces and checks the image received against the one on a passport.

It is claimed that this will speed up the check-in process for consumers, while also improving immigration control.

Barry McGill, assistant director for the UK border Agency at the airport, commented that passengers do not need to pre-register before using the equipment, however they must have a biometric passport.

He added: "If you hold one of the new biometric passports, please take advantage of these gates and help to reduce the time you spend at passport control."
