Meggitt installs world’s first wireless target retriever, Meggitt

Release Date: 2010-09-22

Meggitt Training Systems has installed the shooting industry’s first wireless, indoor 360-degree turning target retrieval system in three shooting bays at the Sandy Springs Gun Club, Georgia, USA.
Known as XWT (next generation wireless target), the Meggitt system eliminates the cabling responsible for service disruption on ranges. Cabling is often broken by badly-aimed rounds and when it frays through normal wear and tear, the tension between it and pulleys has to be adjusted continually.

While XWT’s high reliability delivers more uptime than conventional electro-mechanical systems, the exceptional accuracy and timing to the movement and presentation of wireless targets also delivers a superior training challenge. The XWT system is operated via wireless communication using a user-friendly, touch-screen controller.

While the shooting range accommodates recreational shooters, XWT is aimed at law enforcement officer customers seeking marksmanship qualification and judgmental training. They will also have access to Meggitt’s XVT system, the high performance portable firearms training simulator compact enough to fit into the trunk of a police cruiser. XVT offers superior “shoot/don’t shoot” training through judgmental video courseware and instructors can change video scenarios at any time via multiple “branching options” which allow for varied outcomes to each training scenario. XVT will be used with Meggitt’s patented wireless BlueFire® smart weapons. These are decommissioned pistols and rifles packed with Bluetooth wireless and compressed air systems giving a recoil effect and providing electronic results feedback without cumbersome tethers.

Meggitt provided the Sandy Springs range’s acoustic baffles, ballistic stalls and advanced GranTrap™ technology for bullet capture and lead containment.
