Noise reduction measures ''working for east Midlands'', AOA

Release Date: 2009-06-29

East Midlands Airport has received less than half the number of complaints about noise pollution it got last year after experts implemented new measures.

Figures released by the airport showed that there were only 2,632 complaints made between April last year and May 2009, down from 7,128 last year and represents a 63 per cent drop.

Neil Robinson, director of sustainability at the airport, said: "Throughout the previous financial year, we continued to invest in the local community and environment as well as introducing alternative fuels and recycling facilities on site."

The airport released the figures as part of its community and environment investment report and also said that it was committed to getting to its 2012 target of becoming fully carbon neutral.

In other East Midlands Airport news, the terminal is expecting to see an influx of motorsport fans when the British grand prix comes to nearby Castle Donington next year.
