Southampton up for Airport of the Year award, AOA

Southampton Airport has been nominated for a prestigious travel award which is given out by a leading trade newspaper.

The airport has made it to the final of the Travel Trade Gazette''s Airport of the Year award, which will be judged by a host of big aviation figures including senior representatives from Thomson and Virgin holidays.

Kevin Brown, managing director of Southampton Airport, said: "These awards are regarded as a universal benchmark of quality within the travel industry... together with the airport being named the top in Europe for customer service in the Airports Council International Awards, really demonstrates our commitment to putting the passenger first."

He added that Southampton Airport tries to focus on providing an easy, fast and friendly service to ensure every passenger has a good experience while at the hub.

There have been recent attempts to have Southampton Airport renamed after RJ Mitchell, the man who designed the iconic Spitfire fighter plane.
