Lufthansa Cargo gets TSA approval for new security technologies, Lufthansa Cargo AG

Release Date: 2009-08-06

Close cooperation between carrier and TSA helps to implement state of the art technologies

Over the last 18 months, Lufthansa Cargo and the United States Transportation Security Administration (TSA) have been working towards the development of new technologies to enhance the screening of air cargo that is to be transported on air carriers. One of the biggest obstacles faced by the industry in meeting security mandates is the challenge of screening air cargo for various types of threats effectively and through non-intrusive means.

The TSA has now approved the use of a new technology and screening measures for air cargo. Although the technology and protocols are considered sensitive security information, and are not available for public release, this development has allowed the air cargo industry to move forward in the application of security measures in a manner that limits the impact on the shipping community and at the same time enhances aviation security.

Harald Zielinski, Chef Security Officer of Lufthansa Cargo comments: "This is an excellent example of how government and industry can partner to implement security measures effectively while limiting the impact on the aviation industry. Lufthansa Cargo is proud to further establish state of the art technology - and to strengthen its worldwide market leadership in air cargo security."
