Successful first year for LTQ Engineering, Lufthansa Technik Group

Release Date: 2009-08-11

Number of employees up by 25%

LTQ Engineering, the joint venture for engine overhaul between Qantas Airways Ltd. and Lufthansa Technik AG in Melbourne, Australia, has successfully established itself in the market. In its first year the size of its workforce grew by about 25% to more than 200 in order to be able to offer the company's new and expanded range of services and products in line with customers' requirements.

Moreover, in the last few months LTQ Engineering has invested considerably and upgraded its engine shop so as to provide the optimal technical facilities for the overhaul of GE and CFM56 engines belonging to both the Qantas fleet and other airlines. LTQ Engineering is the only company in the Lufthansa Technik Group that offers overhaul services for the CF6-80E1 engine of the Airbus A330 family.

Commenting on the achievements of the last year, LTQ Engineering CEO Marek Wernicke said: “In the short period since the company was founded, it has already accomplished a great deal. At a time of upheaval, this would not have been possible without the dedication of the workforce. Their willingness to improve existing structures and to introduce new processes and products in parallel has been the basis of our hitherto success. What we have to do now is maintain this business success through the adoption of various other measures – despite the present difficult market environment.”

These measures include expansion of the product range so that technical services can be offered to more customers in Southeast Asia. The company also plans to consolidate and strengthen existing business relationships with the objective of forging long-term partnerships.

As well as overhauls and services for the CF6-80 E1, LTQ Engineering's portfolio includes the GE CF6-80C2 and the CFM56-3 and CFM56-7 engines. In addition, in collaboration with Lufthansa Technik LTQ Engineering offers Airline Support Team (AST ®) services to customers in Australia and the Asian Pacific region. In addition to its engines portfolio LTQ Engineering offers also services for Boeing 747 flap tracks and carriages. The company currently possesses approvals from five different aviation authorities: the CAAC, the CAAP, CASA, EASA and the FAA.

LTQ Engineering has over 25,000m2 of hangar and workshop space at Melbourne International Airport, including a modern electroplating shop, along with a modern test cell capable of testing engines of up to 100,000lb thrust.
