Release Date: 2009-08-19
MAKS, Zhukovsky, Russia - August 19, 2009.
On August 12, the third flight-test Sukhoi Superjet 100 equipped with twin SaM146 engines landed at Zhukovsky airport near Moscow.
SaM146 engines have already logged more than 1,600 hours in flight. In addition to its extensive ground and flight testing program, the SaM146 has demonstrated its ability to power the aircraft on long flights, comparable to those in revenue service.
“Our appearance at MAKS, the industry’s premier showcase in Russia, marks a major milestone in the SaM146 program,” said Jean Paul Ebanga, Chairman and CEO of PowerJet. “After the Paris Airshow last June and with 3 aircraft now flying, it also demonstrates SaM146 engines’ maturity as it prepares the SSJ100 entry into service in just a few short months.”
During the extensive SaM146 ground and flight testing program, test engines accumulated more than 4,200 hours in operation. Eight SaM146 engines are now being used for certification testing.
The SaM146 is developed and produced by PowerJet, a joint venture of Snecma (Safran Group) of France and NPO Saturn of Russia, founded in July 2004. PowerJet is in charge of the SaM146 engine program, including development, production, marketing, sales and support. The SaM146 is purpose-designed for new-generation regional jets, and features state-of-the-art technologies based on the experience of the two parent companies.
