Demand Data Repository enters Phase 1, EUROCONTROL (European Organization for the Safety of Air Navigation)

Release Date: 2009-08-31

Brussels, Belgium – EUROCONTROL has launched an initial experimental version of a new tool, the Demand Data Repository (DDR) which aims to improve operational planning by allowing users to see a coherent picture of historical and future air traffic demand at any date across Europe.
Phase 1 of the DDR was delivered at no additional cost as it builds on existing processes and tools. It allows all air traffic management partners to share a common picture of past and expected traffic demand. Users will be able to select and download demand data according to their own specifications of the time period or the route network to be used. Phase 1 of the DDR will also allow a selection of route choices and demand scenarios such as current or future route network, shortest, cheapest or optimised routes, low, medium or high traffic growth scenarios, etc.

“The DDR is an important building block cementing the operational partnership between EUROCONTROL, ANSPs and Aircraft Operators which will deliver more effective network operations for Single European Sky,” said Joe Sultana, Deputy Director of the CFMU and DMEAN Programme Manager.

Phase 1 of DDR will allow for enhanced support from an integrated network perspective related to short/medium term operational planning: airspace design, development of capacity plans, development of operational scenarios, and enhanced airspace utilisation scenarios, in the strategic phase of network operations. Its deployment enhances European ATM network operational integration and management and is part of the gradual implementation of the DMEAN Framework Programme.

The implementation of DDR Phase 1 was agreed and monitored by the Directors of Operations of the European Air Navigation Service Providers though the EUROCONTROL Operations Coordination Group. It is available at www.eurocontrol.int/ddr.
