Enhanced aerostretcher for smooth and safe patient transport, Lufthansa Technik Group
Release Date: 2009-04-01
Reduced weight despite new functions
Lufthansa Technik AG has further improved its innovative aerostretcher system for a smooth and safe transport of patients who for medical reasons are unable to use standard aircraft seating. Alongside with its further reduced weight of only 38 kilograms the new aerostretcher NG (Next Generation) offers a multitude of new functions.
Fastened by quick locks the foldable patient transport system can be mounted to the seat tracks of most economy class cabins within five to ten minutes. Instead of solid cross beams the next generation aerostretcher uses steel cables that not only reduce weight but also offer a quick bracing via a single knurled screw. Despite its lightweight construction the aerostretcher NG is fully 16g certified.
To ensure the privacy of patients and their company, the aerostretcher features an opaque curtain that can, as well as the legs, be adjusted in its height. This feature enables the system to exactly fit into any aircraft cabin. Additional features like armrests and the plug-in desk can also be adjusted to fit the needs of patients and their accompanying people.
Afterwards, the aerostretcher NG can be folded up and stowed in two compact transport boxes that easily fit into the aircraft’s cargo compartment. As a launch customer, Lufthansa Passage Airline has ordered 50 exemplars of the innovative patient transport system to be delivered by the end of August.
“With the aerostretcher NG we can make patient transport on board of our aircraft even more comfortable”, said Professor Doctor Uwe Stueben, head physician of Lufthansa Passage Airline’s medical services department. “The new model does not only improve the comfort for patients travelling in a reclined position, but due to its light weight and increased flexibility it also provides major improvements for our crews.”
