英国需要战略防务审查, 英国航空航天公司

SBAC Director of Homeland Security and Defence Derek Marshall's letter was published in the Financial Times on 21 May 09 concerning the UK's need for a strategic defence review:

Sir, Philip Stephens picks up a live debate about equipping our armed forces that will hopefully lead soon to a much needed strategic defence review (“Britain rearms itself for a vanished age”, Comment, May 19)). Industry wants an SDR because we need certainty about where to invest for the future and to understand how much the nation is prepared to spend and on what. The SDR must be genuinely strategic, foreign and security policy led. Support for our troops in Afghanistan is vital but there are risks in focusing the debate on tactical and rather superficial arguments about the balance between air, land and sea.

The SDR must consider the longer-term security challenges our country faces and the right level of funding to address them. With the defence budget at an all-time low, it must not be a short-term political budget fixing exercise.
