Alongside Eurocopter, Thales and Défense Conseil International (DCI), Helisim opened the
new level D(1) full flight simulator for the EC225 on October 10, 2008. This new simulator will
allow Helisim to meet the training needs of the many customers operating this aircraft,
notably in the oil & gas segment.
The full flight simulator covers offshore missions, as well as more traditional operations,
assignments using night vision goggles, plus search and rescue (SAR) and military duties.
The level-D-qualified simulator is exceptionally realistic and can be operated by a normal
flight crew complement. Special effects, recreating factors such as extreme weather
conditions, vibration, wind and turbulence, enhance the realistic experience.
Eurocopter is also planning to expand its offer of training services for oil & gas customers in
the North Sea. Through its subsidiary Eurocopter UK Ltd., the Group intends to make its
first flight training device (FTD) available in Aberdeen from 2010. The FTD will be qualified
to JAR FSTD level 3 standards and will include an original equipment manufacturer (OEM)
data pack, a flight loop and an FFS-type motion system.
Later this year, two EC135 flight training devices will become operational in Dallas in the
United States, and Donauwörth in Germany. The FTD localization policy will also be
extended to other programs such as the EC175 and the Dauphin in the months that follow,
particularly in Dallas and Southeast Asia.
Eurocopter is currently strengthening its network, which includes several training centers.
The Group’s strategy is to offer high-quality local training solutions–as close as possible to
where customers actually operate their helicopters–at very attractive prices.
