第六百届TITAL投资熔模铸造研讨会, 德国TITAL公司
Release Date: 2010-01-05
Last month the titanium and aluminum investment casting specialist TITAL GmbH welcomed the 600th participant at its investment casting seminar in Bestwig, Germany. Wolfgang Kummle, Senior Engineer Mechanical Design at Diehl Aerospace GmbH received an engraved casting for his participation at the seminar. Diehl Aerospace GmbH is an aeronautical equipment manufacturer. The investment casting days are sponsored by TITAL free of charge on a local and international level as a hands-on seminar for design engineers and product developers. The German-speaking seminars are usually held at TITAL's headquarters in Bestwig, Germany; the international orientated seminars are either held in Bestwig or at the customer's manufacturing facility. TITAL has recently hosted seminars at Embraer in Brazil, the third largest aircraft manufacturer worldwide, Kongsberg in Norway, TAI in Turkey and at XAC in ChinaWith the regularly scheduled seminars, TITAL specifically addresses the needs of development and design engineers from the aerospace industry. Design-to-Cost issues are always the predominant topic of the investment casting days. During the multiple day seminar TITAL explores all the possibilities to achieve considerable cost savings by using investment castings. The conflict "investment casting vs. milled part" is always discussed in detail. Components with a high material cost can easily be converted from a milled part to an investment casting with only minor design modifications. This conversion offers significant unit cost savings especially for titanium components. Philipp Jerusalem, Director Sales and Marketing at TITAL: "According to their experience most product developers initially design their products utilizing various milling technologies and do not realize the cost reduction potential of castings. This is probably due to the fact that the main focus and educational development of engineers is on milling technologies. The knowledge transfer of the principles for a product design suitable for investment castings has been obviously neglected."
In 2009 a total of eight international and five local investment casting seminars have been held. They are conducted by specialists from the TITAL engineering team with additional training from the head of production and quality management. These discussions focus on the specific characteristics and the design potential of the HERO-Premium-Casting®-process, an aluminum casting process patented by TITAL that produces high-strength aluminum investment castings with exceptional mechanical properties. In addition, the topic "development of prototypes in the area of investment casting" using the rapid prototyping process is also of great interest during the seminar.
