航空业一直富有竞争性, AOA集团

Release Date: 2009-05-26

The aviation industry has always been a competitive market, an expert claims.

David Beckerman, vice president of OAG Market Intelligence at UBM Aviation, comments that this remains the case in the current climate, with the downturn possibly leading to more emphasis from larger firms on "squeezing out the competition".

He adds that airlines may look into developing more routes and services to less-congested airports during the credit crunch.

Meanwhile, commenting on the proposed merger of British Airways (BA) and American Airlines (AA), Mr Beckerman says that there may be regulations imposed on the deal if the plans are passed.

He explains: "If the application is approved, it may have certain limits on where the air carriers can coordinate activities. That could include capacity, but is not clear at this time."

Last week, Sir Richard Branson revealed that Virgin Atlantic has submitted evidence to the US Department of Transportation regarding the proposed BA and AA deal.
