Airport operator BAA is to rebrand Heathrow Airport simply as Heathrow in all of its business-to-business and consumer communications as it attempts to create a new image for the airport.
An outdoor advertising campaign of posters and digital screens situated around the London Underground and major train stations will support the new brand change.
There will also be a newspaper advertorial campaign targeted at top-end passengers and frequent flyers.
BAA marketing and insight director Nick Adderley said: "Brand Heathrow is about creating real understanding amongst our audiences as to why they should fly through our airport."
Brand Heathrow will also use the strapline ''making every journey better'' and Mr Adderley said the new maxim helps to communicate the airport operator''s commitment to making passengers'' experiences of the airport better.
BAA recently revealed it will allow McArthurGlen to become the first external company to manage retail units at one of its seven UK airports, when the retail management firm took control of Glasgow Airport''s shops and outlets.
