The holiday season is about to start, which means lots of people, particularly families and children, leaving at the same time. Children sometimes travel without their parents, in which case they are referred to as unaccompanied minors, or "UM"s in the airline jargon. For those who are connecting in Paris, Air France is offering Europe's largest lounge in Terminal 2E at Paris-Charles de Gaulle, which provides children with Sharp flat screen TVs, Sony playstations, manual activities, table football, board games and magazines galore, under the attentive supervision of Air France staff.

Facts and figures concerning children travelling alone (UMs)

- 320,000 UMs travel on Air France flights every year
- Some 5,800 UMs will be travelling to or from Paris, including 3,600 at Paris-CDG, between Friday 3 July and Sunday 5 July, a very busy weekend for holiday departures
- 200 sq.m. of lounge space for UMs taking a connecting flight at Paris-Charles de Gaulle: it is Europe's largest lounge to be dedicated to children travelling alone
- 60 children can be accommodated at once in the UM lounge at Paris-Charles de Gaulle.
