During its first Technology Licensing Conference, held at the Paris Air Show in le Bourget, the EADS Intellectual Property (IP) Department announced its new technology transfer and licensing policy . “EADS is a leader in the research and development of engineered aerospace products. Some of our technologies can result in operational benefits for our suppliers or in other industries.” said Dr. Jean Botti, EADS Chief Technical Officer. “ Our IP sales conference provided opportunity to discuss these new technologies with our partners. Technology licencing is an integral part of our long-term Intellectual Property strategy.”

“In the global economy, Intellectual Property Rights deserve increasing awareness in technology-driven businesses” said Wulf Höflich, Chief Intellectual Property Officer. EADS is a major contributor to innovation, with a portfolio of more than 7200 inventions worldwide

EADS’ aim is to share the most compelling technologies by licensing some of its patents to suppliers as well as to companies outside the aeronautics market. EADS Technology Licensing offers all interested parties the opportunity to gain added value, including improving existing products through access to complementary technology, developing innovative products or addressing new markets.

Senior EADS executives illustrated this licensing policy by introducing the leading-edge technologies applied by Airbus, Eurocopter and EADS concerning composite materials, manufacturing, communication infrastructures, safety and green technologies, all of which are also available for commercial applications.

This conference was the first occasion on which EADS announced its licensing policy. Two leading companies in the technology transfer and licensing business, Avenium Consulting in France and PATEV in Germany, are assisting EADS. They have been working on the EADS patent portfolio for two years, supporting EADS’ objective to enlarge its IP licensing services.

This first EADS Technology Licensing Conference was a further impulse towards using technology transfer to open up new markets and to foster green and efficient innovation. Many participants were convinced by the eco-efficiency and benefits provided by EADS technologies, and will continue to discuss tailor-made technology transfer.

The conference attracted more than 75 attendees and there was lively discussion regarding the benefits of this approach. Most conference participants were well-known and highly respected suppliers in the aeronautics business, in addition to attendees from other industries who had expressed their interest in implementing technologies developed by EADS in their own products. The first meetings with guests subsequently took place at the Air Show.
