英国皇家航空公司会谈破裂, AOA集团

Release Date: 2009-07-24

Union talks with British Airways (BA) have broken down and could lead to strike action being taken against the aviation giant.

The carrier tried to persuade the Unite and GMB unions to accept proposals last night which would mean further cutbacks on top of the recently agreed pay freezes at the airline.

BA said the cuts are vital after it recorded a £401 million loss in 2008 and would also mean that thousands of jobs could be lost.

The two parties will now have a cooling off period of two weeks in which they will both consider their positions before more talks are scheduled.

BA said in a statement: "Unite has today registered a failure to agree in the cabin crew talks. A failure to agree involves a 14-day cooling off period during which time there will be no external communications."

The airline recently teamed up with Australian aviation company Qantas to give passengers special ticket prices which are influenced by the performance of Australia and England in this summer''s Ashes cricket series.
