英国机场努力降低成本, AOA集团

Release Date: 2009-07-27

UK airports are trying their best to keep costs to a minimum in difficult times for the industry, according to one senior sector figure.

Olivier Jankovec, director general at the Airports Council International, said that many hubs throughout the UK and Europe were subsidising airlines as they look to minimise costs for passengers.

The director disagreed with a release from the Association of European Airlines (AEA) which stated that there is a continuing trend for European airports to increase the fees they charge to airline customers.

He said: "Many airports are not increasing their charges at all and in all of the cases that the AEA mentioned, the airports in question have little choice but to do so."

He added that the airports which have increase fees are doing so because they have made investments in infrastructure which airlines that use the hubs have requested.

The AEA recently said that it looks likely that Heathrow Airport will go forward with plans to increase its fees later in the year.
