猪流感爆发后英国机场加强警戒, AOA集团

Release Date: 2009-07-27

The ongoing swine flu pandemic has forced airport operator BAA to permanently place health officials at its UK airports in an attempt to reduce the spread.

BAA''s decision comes after 160 British citizens were held in quarantine in China, Egypt, Singapore and India because of fears that they had contracted the virus.

The Times reported: "Health workers and immigration officials at Heathrow and other port authorities have been told to look out for passengers with possible signs of swine flu infection."

Fears over the H1N1 strain of the flu virus have been on the rise over recent weeks with a number of deaths in the UK caused by the illness and around 100,000 new cases being diagnosed in the past week alone.

As UK airports increase vigilance due to the swine flu outbreak, drugmaker Novartis has recently responded to the heightened threat by ramping up development of a possible vaccination for the virus.
