有轨电车将同利物浦机场相连, AOA集团
Release Date: 2009-08-03
A high-tech tram link could soon link the Merseyside rail network with Liverpool John Lennon Airport (JLA) if ambitious travel plans for the region are given the green light.
At present passengers travelling by rail have to take a train to a station outside the airport and then catch a shuttle bus to the hub.
The new plans would mean that the existing City Line would be connected to JLA and could cut journey times for flyers.
Councillor Peter Millea, executive member for the new development, said: "Liverpool South Parkway is served by local, regional and national rail services, and all that is needed is a short link from the station to John Lennon Airport, giving us something most other airports take for granted – a direct rail link."
JLA recently had an influx of new routes around Europe after budget carrier easyJet announced it was opening new routes at the travel hub.
