英国旅行社协会呼吁乘客反对旅客通行税, AOA集团
Release Date: 2009-08-04
The Association of British Travel Agents (ABTA) has appealed for families using British airports to write to their MPs and sign an online petition to stop the government increasing Air Passenger Duty tax.
Mark Tanzer, ABTA''s chief executive, said that the higher charges would be counterproductive for the British tourism industry and leave UK passengers as the only ones in the world who have to pay this form of tax.
He added: "These steep rises in taxation, at a time when families are already feeling the pinch, will only help to take us back to the days when only the well-off could afford to fly."
The association estimated that a family of four flying to Florida will pay £180 in tax this year and almost £250 in 2010, when the charge is set to rise again.
Other aviation organisations have urged the UK government to abandon the taxes, including the International Air Transport Association which said it did not understand the timing of the proposed increases.
